Minnesota County Asked to Buyout Flooded Homes
Three months after storms caused significant damage to roads and flooded homes, some residents of Scott County tell emergency management officials they want out.
At least 10 homeowners in Blakeley Township say they’re interested in flood mitigation buyouts. Blakeley was one of the hardest hit communities in Minnesota during heavy rain in June.
Residents were forced to leave their homes after one particularly bad night of flash flooding. Some property owners were unable to access their homes for days and weeks because roads were washed out.
Scott County Emergency Management coordinator Chris Weldon tells Minnesota Public Radio News the county is looking at rebuilding County Roads 1 and 6, two of the main roads to the community.
