Insurance Exec Pleads Guilty in Wisconsin to Intoxicated Flying

An insurance company president has pleaded no contest to flying a plane while intoxicated in Fond du Lac County in Wisconsin, even though he was driving a Mercedes-Benz when he was pulled over.

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield President Lawrence Schreiber doesn’t even have his pilot’s license. But, the deal allows him to avoid a suspension of his driver’s license by entering the plea to a nontraffic, civil forfeiture citation.

Fond du Lac County District Attorney Dan Kaminsky says it was a creative solution to a case that had potential evidence problems.

Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Mark Strand told the Journal Sentinel it may not be the most “harmonious message” to deputies dealing with drunken driving cases. Strand says he has a difference of opinion on the case.
