Illinois Officials to Promote Weather-Radio Use

Illinois officials are urging residents to prepare for the threat of severe weather that accompanies the spring season.

This year authorities will highlight the usefulness of weather-alert radios.

Jonathon Monken is the director the Illinois Emergency Management Agency. He will be among three officials gathering Tuesday to kick off “Severe Weather Preparedness Month” in March.

Monken will join Chuck Genesio of the Illinois Emergency Services Management Association and Chris Miller of the National Weather Service in Lincoln at a Springfield news conference.

Officials say weather alert radios can provide life-saving notification about incoming dangerous weather, particularly when people are sleeping.
