Fargo, North Dakota Police Make Record DUI Arrests in 2011
Fargo, N.D., police made a record 1,127 drunken driving arrests last year.
Police Chief Keith Ternes says the 29 percent increase in DUI arrests over the year has authorities considering changing their message. He says it seems a waste of time to continue a campaign about the risks and dangers of impaired driving. He says a new message might reinforce the fact that motorists who drink and drive end up in jail.
The DUI statistics were part of the 2011 crime statistics for North Dakota’s largest city. Overall, Fargo saw a 6 percent drop in crime last year despite a rash of armed robberies.
