North Dakota’s Souris River Flood Control Plan on Track

North Dakota state and local officials say a flood-control plan for the Souris River is on track.

The proposal’s outlines are being announced on Nov. 3 in Minot. It will be followed by a series of public meetings.

State Water Commission engineer Tim Fay says proposed dike locations will be made public later this month.

Fay says the locations “won’t be a guess line,” although Gov. Jack Dalrymple says they could be changed.

The governor says the Souris River flood-control project will get a lot of “tweaking and fine-tuning.” It will extend from Burlington through Minot to Velva and beyond.

The state Water Commission has budgeted $2.5 million for engineering work. About $750,000 has been paid so far, but the commission has voted to pay the rest.
