South Dakota Deputy, a Former Insurance Agent, Indicted on 4 Counts of Grand Theft
A Minnehaha County, South Dakota, grand jury has indicted a Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy on four counts of grand theft.
Court documents say that while licensed as an insurance producer, 41-year-old Rob Hotchkiss submitted fraudulent insurance applications in order to obtain commissions. The four incidences occurred in November and December 2008.
The Mitchell Daily Republic reports that Hotckiss, of Delmont, is released on bond.
Douglas County State’s Attorney Craig Parkhurst said Hotchkiss has been relieved of his duties as a deputy sheriff until the case is resolved. An arraignment is scheduled next month in Minnehaha County circuit court
The indictment comes less than two months after Douglas County Sheriff Troy Strid was tried and acquitted on a charge of public embezzlement.
