30 Ousted Workers’ Comp Arbitrators Still on Job in Illinois

Thirty Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission arbitrators whose terms were ended by the governor in July are still on the job and are getting paid.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that the arbitrators are continuing to serve until their successors are appointed, as allowed by Gov. Pat Quinn.

A Quinn spokesman says an advisory board the Democrat appointed this summer is making its final recommendations to Quinn about who might best fill the positions. Brie Callahan says Quinn should have the board’s recommendations soon, likely within a week.

Quinn removed the arbitrators as part of a sweeping reform of workers’ compensation in Illinois. Some of the arbitrators could be reinstated if they are invited to be interviewed by attorneys with Quinn’s office as part of a screening process.
