ND, SD Auto Insurance Premiums Among Lowest

North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm says auto insurance premiums paid by drivers in the Dakotas remain among the lowest in the nation.

Hamm cites a new report issued by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. He says in 2008, the average auto insurance premium in North Dakota was $644, compared with the national average of $903.

Iowa was the least-expensive state, at an average of $616, followed by Wisconsin at $641. North Dakota was next on the least-expensive list, followed by South Dakota at $651.

The most expensive state was Louisiana, where the average auto insurance premium was $1,275.
