Waterloo, Iowa, to Receive $7M Grant for Flood Control
The U.S. Department of Commerce is providing Waterloo, Iowa, with a $7 million grant for flood control efforts.
U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, D-Iowa, announced the Economic Development Administration grant on Aug. 3. It’s designed to assist Waterloo’s continuing flood recovery efforts associated with the 2008 floods.
Grassley says the grant will help the city install five storm water lift stations along the Cedar River flood levee system. Those stations will increase the city’s ability to pump water over the levee during flooding.
The project is one of many steps Waterloo has been taking to prevent or mitigate future flood damage.
