Wisconsin Flood Damage Exceeds $28.5 Million

Damage from last week’s flooding in Milwaukee County, Wis., now exceeds more than $28.5 million, according to Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. He reported that 6,368 residential homes in Milwaukee County sustained damage totaling $16.8 million; 92 businesses sustained damage costing approximately $1.5 million; and local agencies and municipalities reported $10.4 million in public sector damages and costs. No agricultural damage was reported thus far.

Damage totals are preliminary, and will be updated as more claims come in, the Sheriff’s office reported. Meanwhile, County Executive Scott Walker has declared a major disaster for Milwaukee County. The county is seeking state and federal assistance through the State of Wisconsin Division of Emergency Management. The damage assessment will be under review by the state to determine state and federal assistance eligibility.
