Red River Valley Residents Encouraged To Purchase Flood Insurance
Federal officials are holding community meetings in the northern Red River Valley, N.D., to talk about flood protection.
Federal Emergency Management Agency Insurance Specialist Norm Ashford says the idea is to get people thinking about insurance and protection while the memories of spring flooding are still on people’s minds.
The series of meetings with FEMA and the Small Business Administration began in Wahpeton, N.D. The meetings are continuing in Cavalier, Grafton and Mayville.
Wahpeton Mayor Jim Sturdevant says the efforts over the years by his community to work on a diversion channel proved their worth when area rivers started rising this spring.
