Federal Grant for Spring Green as Flood Aid
A federal grant will allow Spring Green, Wis., to buy and remove 28 houses damaged by severe flooding a year ago in the village near the Wisconsin River in Sauk County.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced the $4 million grant.
Police Chief Kevin Wilkins said he remembers the flooding like it was yesterday because it was so bad, overwhelming sump pumps and shooting water through the foundations.
The neighborhood now is nearly abandoned, with just two residents still there.
The others have been living elsewhere while still paying mortgages and waiting for some kind of buyout.
Now they’ve learned that the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program is providing money to buy and remove the homes in the flood-prone area.
