Heavy Rain Causing Missouri Flooding

Residents in several river towns in Missouri are anxiously watching the weather over the next few days, now that recent rains have already caused minor to moderate flooding.

Parts of northeast and central Missouri got up to 3 inches of rain April 29 and 30, and that is causing some rivers to overtop their banks.

The Missouri River was over flood stage in several spots yesterday, including Jefferson City, where a big section of a state employee parking lot was closed due to flood water. Several mid-Missouri roads were closed, and a ferry near Glasgow was shut down.

A National Weather Service hydrologist says the five-day forecast calls for more rain. No major flooding is expected unless that rainfall amounts to more than expected.
