Two Men Sentenced for Sioux Falls Insurance Scam
Two men have been sentenced for a conspiracy to burn a pickup in Sioux Falls to collect insurance money.
Federal prosecutors said Benjamin Meyer planned to report his truck stolen after arranging to have it destroyed.
They said Meyer paid Brandon Deweerd to hire a third man to set fire to the vehicle.
Attorneys also accuse Chad Michael Blair of helping to arrange the theft and arson.
Deweerd was sentenced to five years of probation with four months of home confinement and a $1,000 fine.
Meyer got four years of probation with four months of home confinement and 60 hours of community service.
Prosecutors dropped charges against Blair, who was sentenced to three years in an unrelated scheme to burn down his Sioux Falls business for insurance money.
