Ohio Temporarily Changes Agent Background Check Procedures
The Ohio Department of Insurance recently announced that until further notice, the department will be temporarily allowing insurance agent license applicants to complete the fingerprint/background check requirement at any point during the licensure process.
This temporary change in process is due to the unexpected delay of approximately 10 to 20 days that it is taking the department to receive background check results from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation.
The change means that, until further notice, an applicant may have his or her fingerprints taken at an authorized WebCheck location at any point prior to or after passing the department’s examination at Promissor. The department will continue only accepting license applications after successful completion of the license examination.
A list of authorized WebCheck vendors is located on the department’s Web site, www.ohioinsurance.gov.
Applicants are advised that WebCheck machines located at the Promissor test centers are only available to applicants immediately after successful completion of the exam. Walk-in examinations or WebCheck usage is not available.
