Mich. Agents Break Tradition, Announce Endorsement for Governor
The Michigan Association of Insurance Agents broke its long-standing tradition of not endorsing statewide candidates and today announced their endorsement for Dick DeVos for governor.
“We are pleased to endorse Dick DeVos for governor because he is an accomplished businessman with a proven track record for creating jobs and economic growth, and we are convinced he will welcome independent agents as a partner in helping to rebound our state economy,” said incoming Association President Rob Umstead. “If Michigan is to recover from its pro-longed economic downturn, it will take a leader who understands and appreciates what positive impact small businesses (like independent insurance agencies) can have on our economy. We are convinced that Dick DeVos is that leader.”
The DeVos endorsement is the first time the Association has endorsed a statewide candidate.
The Michigan Association of Insurance Agents is a statewide trade group that represents approximately 10,000 independent agents and industry employees.
