AIA Congratulates Voss on Appointment as Iowa’s New Insurance Commissioner
The American Insurance Association (AIA) on Tuesday congratulated Susan Voss on her appointment by Gov. Tom Vilsack (D) as Commissioner of the Iowa Insurance Division.
“AIA and its member companies look forward to working with Susan Voss in her new capacity as Insurance Commissioner,” said Sean McManamy, AIA assistance vice president, Midwest region. “Iowa’s insurance consumers will be well-served by Ms. Voss’ extensive regulatory experience and commitment to a healthy, competitive insurance market.”
Voss, who previously served as First Deputy Insurance Commissioner, will officially take over the agency on Jan. 1, 2005. She replaces longtime Commissioner Terri Vaughan, who is leaving for a position with Drake University.
“Commissioner Vaughan’s strong leadership of the Iowa Insurance Division has served as a model for other regulators in the Midwest and across the country,” McManamy said. “We wish her the very best as she resumes her career in academia, and we thank her for her many contributions to the ongoing debate over the future of insurance regulation.”
The insurance industry employs more than 7,500 people across the Hawkeye state among the more than 1,550 licensed insurance companies (includes property/casualty, life and health) and paid in excess of $142 million in premium taxes in 2003.
