Sonnenschein Adds to Regulatory Group With Addition of Former Ill. Director
Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal announced the addition of five prominent lawyers to its Insurance Group, enhancing its national insurance regulatory, transactional and reinsurance practices and its insurance administrative litigation capabilities. Nathaniel Shapo, former Director of Insurance in Illinois, has joined as a Partner in the firm’s Chicago office, and Kenneth Schnoll, Thomas McDonald, John Finston and Sanford Kingsley have joined as Partners in San Francisco.
“These distinguished lawyers with a well-deserved reputation for providing sophisticated and effective representation within the insurance industry are a major addition to Sonnenschein’s client service capabilities,” Paul Glad, chair of Sonnenschein’s Insurance Practice, said.
As Director of the Illinois Department of Insurance, Shapo consulted with Congress and federal bank regulators on the Gramm-Leach-Bliley (Financial Services Modernization) Act and helped draft the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) Statement of Intent for the Future of Insurance Regulation. Shapo was elected twice to national office at NAIC, as Secretary-Treasurer and Vice President, and twice served as chair of the NAIC Midwestern Zone.
