American Family Looks to Expand into Urban Markets
As part of an ongoing effort to expand into minority markets, property/casualty insurer American Family Mutual Insurance Company of Madison, Wis., announced it has joined the Urban Insurance Partners Institute (UIPI).
UIPI, based in Chicago, is a nonprofit organization that concentrates on educating insurers on how to operate successfully in urban areas; it also teaches homeowners and potential homeowners about insurance. The institute is currently developing a commercial insurance education module.
American Family, which is celebrating its 75th year, offers several types of insurance and financial service products in 15 states. The company stated it believes education is a critical component to success in urban areas.
American Family began an initiative in the 1980s to increase its presence in urban markets. New products and services, efforts to expand the number of urban agents, a Spanish language advertising campaign, as well as community investment and involvement, are all part of the company’s urban focus.
