Kansas Tornado Provides No Warning

Twenty-eight people were injured and 200 buildings were destroyed when a tornado hit Hoisington, Kansas, on April 21. The damage was six blocks wide and a mile long.

A 69-year-old man was killed in his home when warning alarms didn’t sound in the town of 2,900. Although his wife took shelter in their basement, Gerald Tauscher watched a local report that informed him the storm was at least seven miles north. Unfortunately, the county sheriff reported that the town’s sirens were not set off until after the storm had struck.
