People Moves: Hartford’s Pasterfield Named CEO of MS Amlin Business Services; Former Morrison Chair Higginson to Lead Ardonagh Retail Unit in UK

This edition of International People Moves details appointments at MS Amlin and Ardonagh Group.

MS Amlin Corporate Services Ltd. (MS ACS) announced that Matt Pasterfield will be joining us next year as the new CEO of MS Amlin Business Services (MS ABS).

Pasterfield is an experienced leader with more than 20 years of global industry experience. He has successfully led IT and operations for several multi-national insurers, most recently holding the international chief operating officer role at The Hartford. Prior to Hartford, he worked at CNA Hardy (July 2016 to March 2019) and Chubb where he worked for nearly 19 years in various positions, according to his LinkedIn profile.

His experience is well-suited to assist MS ABS further enhance its strategy and provide valuable services to the legal entities at MS Amlin, said the company in a statement.

The current CEO of MS ABS, Rob Houghton, will be departing at the end of 2021 to pursue other opportunities outside MS Amlin. Houghton joined MS Amlin in 2019 and last year took on the role of CEO.

As part of the transition until the new CEO comes on board, Robin Adam, currently serving as chairman of the board of directors for MS ACS, will function as interim CEO. Adam’s depth of company knowledge and experiences ensures MS ABS’s ongoing commitment to providing quality services to its clients.

MS Amlin is a leading global re/insurer, which is part of the global top-10 insurance group MS&AD. It operates three main legal entities’ operating in the Lloyd’s, Continental European and Bermudian markets. MS Amlin Corporate Services Ltd. (MS ACS) is the employing entity for the company’s UK operations. MS Amlin Business Services (MS ABS) is an entity that sits within MS ACS. The CEO appointment is for MS ABS.

Former Morrison Chair Higginson to Lead Ardonagh Retail Unit

The Ardonagh Group, a global insurance brokerage and service provider, announced the appointment of Andy Higginson as chairman of Ardonagh Retail, its online consumer business which has 3 million customers in the UK and Ireland. Higginson’s appointment is subject to regulatory approval.

Ardonagh Retail is one of four platforms of The Ardonagh Group, the UK’s largest independent insurance distribution platform and a top 20 broker globally. Ardonagh Retail trades under a number of leading brands including Swinton, Carole Nash and Autonet. It employs 2,400 colleagues at 11 sites and places approximately £1 billion of premium income.

Higginson was chairman of Wm Morrison Supermarkets plc from January 2015 until October 2021. He worked with the executive team and board to turnaround the business, culminating in its recent £7 billion sale to Clayton, Dubilier & Rice. Prior to Wm Morrison, he was chairman of Poundland up to and including its 2014 stock market floatation.

He is currently senior independent director at Flutter plc, chairman of Evergreen Garden Care (UK) Ltd. and YourParkingSpace, and a non-executive director of Majid Al Futtaim Retail (Dubai).

Higginson retail career includes 15 years as an executive director of Tesco (the UK-based supermarket chain), with four as CEO of its Retail Services Division including Tesco.com, Tesco Bank and customer data science division Dunnhumby.

As Ardonagh Retail chairman, Higginson will work with Ardonagh Retail CEO Ian Donaldson, Atlanta CEO Emma Rawlinson and Chief Commercial Officer Craig Ball to support the growth of UK personal lines broker Atlanta and other strategic opportunities.

Atlanta was created from the acquisition and digital integration of van specialist Autonet, motorbike broker Carole Nash and Swinton Insurance. Its trading brands have expanded to include Lloyd Latchford, Marmalade, Healthy Pets, Be Wiser and Paymentshield.
