People Moves: QBE Names Liberty Mutual’s Hunter as Dir. of Canada; Amwins Global Risks Hires Apollo’s Graham for Casualty; Ardonagh Promotes 2 Snr. Leaders

QBE Appoints Liberty Mutual’s Hunter as Director of Canada

QBE has appointed Ben Hunter as director of Canada.

Hunter is currently vice president, head of Marine, Energy, Construction & Risk Services at Liberty Mutual Canada. He brings a wealth of experience of the Canadian insurance market to his new role, having previously held leadership roles in Travelers Canada and Chubb Insurance.

He joins in January 2022 and will report to Peter Burton, executive director, International Markets, QBE European Operations. He takes over the role from Jamie Thompson who was appointed director of Financial Lines, QBE European Operations, in May this year.

“We have made significant progress in strengthening our portfolio in Canada over the past few years, and I’m confident that with the new leadership that will be provided by Ben, and the talent of the wider team, we are in an excellent position to take our Canadian business to the next level of success and growth,” commented Burton.

Amwins Global Risks Hires Apollo’s Graham as Director of Casualty

Amwins Global Risks, the international arm of global specialty insurance broker Amwins and one of the largest independent wholesale brokers in London, announced the appointment of Tom Graham as director of its casualty division.

In his new role, Graham will focus on casualty business emanating from the U.S., Canada and Australia, developing and running his team within Amwins Global Risks’ Professional & Financial Risks division. With more than 500 employees across 150 countries, Amwins Global Risks serves clients and markets in North America, the U.K. and across the globe while maintaining position as a top 10 contributor to Lloyd’s.

Graham joins Amwins Global Risks from Apollo Syndicate Management where he most recently held the position of U.S. casualty underwriter. Graham started his insurance career on the Aon Graduate Programme, eventually moving to Aon’s casualty division as a wholesale U.S. casualty broker and then as a senior broker working on Healthcare Liability business.

Amwins Global Risks is a specialist wholesale insurance and reinsurance broker serving clients and markets in the UK and internationally to place more than $2 billion annually of premium into the London and global marketplace.

Ardonagh Promotes 2 Senior Leaders

The Ardonagh Group, the London-based independent brokerage group, announced the promotions of two senior leaders within its platforms.

Jaime Swindle is joining the leadership team at Geo Underwriting to support the development of its UK commercial MGA proposition from Dec. 1. She will join Derek Coles’ executive committee and work alongside chief commercial officer Nick Sharp.

Geo Underwriting’s UK commercial specialisms include agriculture, construction, terrorism, sports, leisure and entertainment, marine trade and liability.

Scott Bennett will become managing director of Bravo Networks from Dec. 1.

Bennett has worked with the networks for 13 years, most recently as sales director where he has built strong relationships with insurers and ran the networks’ community of business development managers.

As managing director, he will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the networks and report into Ardonagh Advisory Chief Commercial Officer Phil Bayles.

His appointment is subject to regulatory approval.
