Gallagher Acquires Grand Cayman’s Briat, UK’s Manchester Underwriting
Global insurance broker Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. announced it has acquired two agencies: Grand Cayman-based Briat Insurance Ltd. and UK-based Manchester Underwriting Agencies Limited.
Terms of the transactions were not disclosed.
Established in 2012, Briat Insurance Ltd. is a retail insurance broker offering commercial, professional, homeowners and health insurance coverages in the Cayman Islands. Clive Dawson, Jonathon Coleman and their associates will remain in their current location under the direction of Matthew Pragnell, CEO of Gallagher Caribbean Group.
Gallagher noted that Briat has “particular strengths in professional lines, larger commercial accounts and high-net-worth homes.” The firm has also been a partnetin Gallagher Global Network partner, an international network of advisors and local brokers with industry expertise, for nearly a decade.
Gallagher also announced that its specialist underwriting subsidiary, Pen Underwriting, has acquired 100% of UK-based Manchester Underwriting Agencies Limited and its wholly owned subsidiary, Manchester Underwriting Management Limited.
Founded in 2010 by Charles Manchester as a specialist underwriting agency, Manchester Underwriting Management has grown organically and through acquisitions into a multi-class, full-service managing general agent with five locations in the UK. MUM specializes in professional indemnity and management liability coverages for small-to-medium businesses through its independent retail broker clients.
Manchester is chairman of the UK Managing General Agents Association.
The business will become part of Pen Underwriting and Charles Manchester will continue to lead MUM.
