Austen to Head Cooper Gay Singapore Brokerage Operations
London-based Cooper Gay, the independent wholesale, reinsurance and specialist retail insurance broker, has appointed Jeremy Austen as Head of Broking for its Singapore office.
He reports to Asia Pacific Regional Managing Director, Stephen Britten, and will focus on business development throughout the region.
Austen joins Cooper Gay from Talbot Asia, where he was Principal Underwriting Officer of the Lloyd’s syndicate. He has 30 years of experience as a broker, and has worked for Cogent and Arthur J Gallagher.
Cooper Gay first established a presence in Singapore as a general reinsurance broker in 1996. Its Asia Pacific regional presence now includes subsidiaries in Hong Kong and Sydney, Australia and a representative office in Shanghai, China., employing a staff of 30.
The team “handles all classes of facultative and treaty reinsurance, spanning property, energy (onshore and offshore), general liability, financial lines and marine,” said the bulletin.

Britten pointed out: “The Asia Pacific market is a primary focus for Cooper Gay and we have plans to grow our local presence considerably in order to support our expanding client portfolio. By hiring Jeremy we have not only added to the combined insurance and reinsurance experience of our team, but having spent 14 years living in Singapore he also brings a true understanding of the region’s specific trading requirements.”
