NHC Tracking TS Karen
The National Hurricane Center in Miami is currently tracking Tropical Storm Karen, the eleventh named storm of the current season. As of 5:00 a.m. AST, Karen was located about 1565 miles (2520 kms) east of the Windward Islands, and poses no immediate threat to land.
The storm is moving toward the west-northwest at around 16 mph (26 km/hr), which is expected to continue for the next 24 hours. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/hr) with higher gusts. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 kms) from the center. The NHC said, “some additional strengthening is forecast during the next 24 hours.”
According to the NHC’s five-day forecast, Karen is headed into the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, and should not threaten any land areas, unless it changes course.
