AIG Aids South Asia Quake Victims
American International Group Inc. (AIG) is donating $1 million to support relief efforts in the areas affected by the Oct. 8 earthquake in South Asia. In addition, AIG is encouraging its employees to help the earthquake victims by donating to the AIG Disaster Relief Fund. Employee donations will be matched 100 percent by AIG.
Martin Sullivan, AIG president and chief executive officer, said, “While we are grateful that none of AIG’s employees were harmed in this tragedy, the earthquake in South Asia has left hundreds of thousands homeless with no access to the most basic necessities. The funds donated will be given to organizations throughout India and Pakistan that will be able to most efficiently and effectively provide much needed relief. AIG and its employees have a tradition of generosity, giving to those affected by tragedies including Hurricane Katrina, the South Asian tsunami and the September 11 terrorist attacks.”
AIG has long-standing presence in the region. Through a joint venture in India, Tata AIG has offices throughout the country that provide general and life insurance. In Pakistan, AIG Companies, headquartered in Karachi, also provide general and life insurance.
