CNA Launches Pilot Internet Cargo Program

CNA’s maritime division announced that it will begin a pilot program of a system that “enables OMMni.com, the automated ocean cargo insurance system, to receive instructions to issue electronic insurance certificates over the Internet for exporters participating in the pilot.”

“@Global Trade (m) Secure Payment and Trade Management System” was developed by CCE Web Corporation in collaboration with CNA’s maritime companies in the U.S., the U.K. and Canada. “The system provides an innovative alternative to the traditional time-consuming and paper-intensive method of cargo insurance,” CNA indicated.

“The pilot is scheduled to run until the fall of 2001 with buyers, sellers, financial institutions, carriers, freight forwarders, surveyors, customs brokers, chambers of commerce and other trade service providers participating in Asia, Europe and North America,” said the announcement.
