24 Reported Killed in Venezuela Air Crash

January 26, 2001

Preliminary reports indicate that there were no survivors following the crash of a DC-3 on a flight in Venezuela carrying tourists, among them six Americans, to view Angel Falls.

The plane, one of over 1000 of the legendary DC-3’s still in service, apparently developed engine trouble following a refueling stop in in the southern Venezuelan town of Ciudad Bolivar, and crashed into a shantytown on its outskirts while trying to return to the airport.

Authorities have begun an investigation into the causes of the crash.
