Insurer FM Donates Rhode Island United Way’s Largest Gift in Its History
Commercial property insurer FM announced a $5 million gift from the FM Foundation to United Way of Rhode Island,. The gift is the largest single corporate donation in the nonprofit organization’s history.
The donation comes as the state’s United Way is celebrating its centennial, honoring 100 years of bringing people and resources together to address community needs including financial and food security, housing, job training, early education and youth services. The organization supports hundreds of local nonprofits.
FM’s support of United Way of Rhode Island spans more than 85 years.
“Strong communities are built when people and organizations come together to support those who need it most. For 100 years, United Way of Rhode Island has done just that,” said Malcolm Roberts, chairman and chief executive officer of FM.
United Way of Rhode Island said FM’s gift will help expand its Family Stability Initiative, including opening additional economic empowerment centers that provide families with coordinated support designed to build long-term stability and resilience.
Established nearly two centuries ago, FM is based in Johnston.
