Maryland Insurance Administration Warns About Unlicensed Insurance Agency
Maryland Insurance Commissioner Kathleen A. Birrane is warning Marylanders, particularly small transportation business owners, that Bethesda-based Phillip Johnson Family Insurance Agency LLC (PFI) and its lead agent Jackline Adedoyin are not authorized to market or sell insurance in the state.
Commissioner Birrane is urging consumers to contact the Maryland Insurance Administration if they are contacted by PFI or Adedoyin about buying insurance.
PFI’s Maryland resident insurance producers license expired on June 18, 2021, and Adedoyin’s license expired on October 31, 2021. MIA investigators determined that PFI and Adedoyin continue to act as insurance producers despite the license expirations and in violation of Maryland insurance law.
This week, the MIA issued an order against PFI for violating numerous provisions of Maryland’s Insurance Article, including failing to remit premiums collected on behalf of an insurer, knowingly issuing false certificates of insurance and continuing to act as insurance producers without active licenses or appointments.
The order, which is subject to a request for a hearing, directs PFI and Adedoyin to discontinue insurance marketing and sales in the state and to pay $142,590 in penalties and restitution.
