People Moves: New Hires at Gilbert Insurance Agency, IAT Insurance Group

Gilbert Insurance Agency hired Carmelina Bernazani as an account executive for personal and commercial lines.

Bernazani will work out of Gilbert’s Reading, Massachusetts, office. With Carmelina’s addition to the team, Gilbert Insurance Agency now has 18 employees located across its Reading and Medford locations.

She has more than 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, including roles in sales, customer service, training, and account management. Bernazani began her insurance career in 1997 as a call center representative for direct carrier Electric Insurance. While there, she was promoted to customer service trainer, mentoring new customer service representatives.

After six years at Electric, she transitioned to the agency side of the industry and gained valuable experience in both the standard and high-net-worth markets at several large national insurance agencies, including HUB International.

IAT Insurance Group, a provider of specialty property/casualty and surety products, hired four management liability employees to the team.

Joe Higgins joined as underwriting director, while Lauren Drohan will serve as a senior underwriter. In addition, Kelly Mercey and Megan Furey joined as underwriters. These additions come months after IAT’s April 2021 launch of the ML Pro Plus unit in response to demand for directors and officers (D&O), employment practices liability (EPL), fiduciary, crime and cyber liability coverages.

Higgins joins from Travelers, where he spent 14 years in several positions, most recently as an account executive officer for management liability. Drohan was previously with Chubb as a senior financial lines underwriter. She also worked for Cincinnati Insurance Company as a commercial lines underwriter.

Mercey joins from Chubb, where she spent the last three years as a management liability underwriter. Furey previously served on the specialty team at CNA. Earlier in her career, she was a management liability underwriter with a managing general agent specializing in homeowner and condominium associations.
