Man Arrested in Series of Burlington Fires Causing About $74K in Damage
Police in Vermont’s largest city have arrested a man accused of setting a series of fires that caused about $74,000 in damage.
Robert Barbin, 57, is facing charges of arson and reckless endangerment. Burlington police say he ignited a fire in a trash can early Thursday that damaged Ahli Baba’s Kabab Shop. They say he then set additional fires in trash cans downtown.
Police used surveillance video to track the suspect. When they found Barbin leaving his home, he was carrying shopping bags containing wads of paper, ignitable liquid and a lighter, police said.
It was not immediately known if he is being represented by an attorney.
