Massachusetts Medical Marijuana Site Ordered Closed After State Inspection

February 11, 2019

State regulators have ordered a medical marijuana dispensary in Acton, Mass., to close its doors temporarily.

The Cannabis Control Commission announced on Twitter on Friday that it had issued a cease-and-desist order against Massachusetts Wellspring. Patients were directed to the commission’s online listings of other medical dispensaries to visit until the facility is allowed to reopen.

The commission said an unannounced inspection of Wellspring turned up violations involving product labeling, sanitation and security.

A message left with the dispensary was not immediately returned. A website for the store displayed a message saying the website was undergoing maintenance.

According to the commission’s records, Wellspring has not applied for permission to sell recreational marijuana.

Oversight of the medical marijuana was recently transferred to the commission from the state Department of Public Health.
