Delaware Police Investigate Carjacking After Intentional Collision

April 24, 2018

Delaware State Police are investigating a carjacking set up by an intentional motor vehicle crash.

Authorities say the incident happened Wednesday night on state route 71 in Bear when a woman’s car was rammed from behind by another vehicle.

After both drivers pulled over and got out of their cars, the suspect entered the woman’s car and drove off. A second suspect, who was a passenger in the striking vehicle, then moved to the driver’s seat and drove off in that car.

Police say intentional crashes are usually related to insurance fraud but can also involve vehicle theft.

Tactics include ramming a vehicle at an intersection and having phony witnesses claim you were at fault, and intentionally sideswiping a vehicle when there are two adjacent turn lanes at an intersection.
