Travelers Says Property-Related Claims Spike on Halloween
On Halloween, homeowners have more to worry about than running out of candy for trick-or-treaters.
The Travelers insurance company says there are 24 percent more property crime-related claims on Halloween than an average day.
To prevent theft or vandalism, the insurance giant recommends not allowing homes to appear unoccupied.
The company says using candles in carved pumpkins can be a major fire hazard and recommends using only lights that have been tested for safety. It also urges people never to staple or nail through electrical wires or extension cords.
