Hartford Unit Accused of Using Fudged Hurricane Sandy Report

December 2, 2014 by

A Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. unit was accused by a lawyer representing policyholders affected by Hurricane Sandy of denying a claim from the storm based on an altered engineering report.

The lawyer submitted evidence of the altered report yesterday to a federal magistrate judge in Central Islip, New York, who earlier found that another insurer, Wright National Flood Insurance Co., had used a potentially fraudulent report and expressed concern the practice may have been “widespread.”
