FEMA Publishes Latest Data on New Jersey’s Sandy Recovery
The Federal Emergency Management Agency this week released its latest figures regarding Superstorm Sandy disaster assistance and recovery in New Jersey — including the National Flood Insurance Program claims payments made so far for New Jersey residents. The numbers are current as of June 2.
- $3.5 billion in total National Flood Insurance Program payments made on claims to date
- $398.7 million in FEMA grants approved for individuals and households — which include $343.6 million for housing assistance and $55.1 million for other needs
- $787.9 million in SBA disaster loans approved for homeowners, renters and businesses
- $452.3 million approved in FEMA Public Assistance grants to communities and some nonprofit organizations that serve the public
- 261,619 people contacted FEMA for help or information
- 126,620 housing inspections completed
FEMA also announced this week that New Jersey residents with questions about the National Flood Insurance Program and mitigation techniques have a helpline to call to get up-to-date information.
The number is 1-877-287-9804 for people who need information about flood insurance, the latest maps, or other mitigation topics and issues. Policyholders with questions or concerns about their claims can also speak with NFIP specialists.
The helpline operates from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Additional information is available at www.floodsmart.gov.
