Pennsylvania Borough Insurer Pays $98K in Cop-on-Cop Lawsuit
A Pittsburgh suburb’s insurer has paid $98,500 to settle a lawsuit filed by an Allegheny County police officer against local cops he claims roughed him up then filed false charges against him.
Fifty-one-year-old Raymond Hrabos, the county cop, lives in Springdale — the borough he sued. Hrabos claimed Officer Mark Thom drew his gun while he argued with Officer John Walls, when both local officers were in a pickup blocking traffic on a street narrowed due to snow plowing in February 2011.
Hrabos was charged with misdemeanor and summary offenses, all of which were later dropped or dismissed.
Thom, who is 31, has since resigned and pleaded guilty last month to unrelated federal civil rights charges that he used a stun gun on a handcuffed suspect. Thom is scheduled for sentencing July 12.
