Aon Opens Temporary Office in Midtown Manhattan During Sandy Recovery

Aon plc announced this week that it has secured interim office space in midtown Manhattan in New York City as part of its business continuity plan and to continue to serve clients effectively following Superstorm Sandy.

The nearly 114,000-square-foot office, located at 299 Park Ave., between 48th and 49th streets, can accommodate nearly 400 employees. It officially opened Monday, Nov. 19, for meetings.

Aon said it anticipates returning to its 199 Water St. location in lower Manhattan in early January. The lower part of Manhattan in New York City had suffered significant flooding and power outages in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.

“Our colleagues in the Northeast have shown remarkable resiliency in maintaining seamless operations and serving clients during a time of significant damage following Post-tropical Cyclone Sandy,” said Tom Fitzgerald, CEO of Aon Risk Solutions’ U.S. retail operations.

“While our colleagues based at 199 Water St. have transitioned to Aon facilities in midtown Manhattan, Jericho, N.Y., Stamford, Conn., and Morristown, N.J., in the immediate aftermath of Sandy, contracting temporary space in Manhattan provides another option from which Aon colleagues can work with clients, colleagues and carriers in this important time.”
