Maine Gov. LePage Attacks Supreme Court’s Healthcare Ruling

Maine Gov. Paul LePage used his weekly radio address this past Saturday to attack the Supreme Court’s decision that upheld the president’s health care law. He also described the Internal Revenue Service as the “new Gestapo.”

LePage says the court’s decision has “made America less free” and that people have no choice but to buy health insurance or “pay the new Gestapo — the IRS.”

The requirement that Americans buy insurance is at the heart of the debate over the Affordable Health Care Act.

Critics say it’s unconstitutional to require Americans to buy insurance or pay a penalty, but the Supreme Court upheld the penalty as a type of tax.

LePage is continuing to assail the law, saying the government is encouraging people to rely on the government instead of encouraging self-reliance.
