Chubb Sues Actress Marisa Tomei Over $129K Damage in NYC Apartment

Three insurance companies have sued Academy Award-winning actress Marisa Tomei in a New York court last week, seeking $128,755 in damages.

Pacific Indemnity Company, Federal Insurance Company and Vigilant Insurance Company — all members of Chubb Group of Insurance Companies — filed a lawsuit on Jan. 30 at the Manhattan Supreme Court, the summons document examined by Insurance Journal shows. The insurers are accusing her of negligence, alleging that a leak from the actress’ apartment caused extensive water damage to the premises and property to her Greenwich Village apartment building.

The insurers are serving as subrogee of apartment owners downstairs who suffered damage. These owners mentioned in the court papers include “Pink Flamingos” director John S. Waters Jr. and The Bank of New York Mellon Corp. The insurers say director Waters is owed at least $15,079 and the Bank of New York is owed at least $33,226 plus interest and other costs.
