Storms Knock Out Power to Thousands in New Hampshire, Connecticut
Strong winds and a fast-moving mix of rain and snow have knocked out power to over 30,000 customers in New Hampshire.
Many of the outages have been reported in the central part of the state Thursday morning. The National Weather Service says the storm quickly made its way through the state.
More rain and snow is expected in the mountains on Friday. Calmer, but cooler weather is expected over the weekend.
In Connecticut, more than 22,000 utility customers are without power following strong storms and high winds that whipped the state Wednesday night.
About 21,500 Connecticut Light & Power customers lost power and more than 750 United Illuminating customers — mostly in Hamden and Milford — lost electricity Wednesday night or early Thursday.
Frank Poirot, a spokesman for CL&P, told WFSB-TV Thursday that tree limbs brought down power lines, primarily affecting customers in eastern and southeast Connecticut. CL&P serves 1.2 million customers.
The power outages are a new headache for customers and CL&P, just a month after extended outages due to the late October snow storm.
Many stray branches cut from their trees in the October storm and dangling precariously since fell to the ground in the overnight storm, blocking some roads.
