Virginia Governor Vetoes $1M Increase on MedMal Cap
Gov. Bob McDonnell has vetoed bills that would have increased the maximum damage award for a medical malpractice lawsuit from $2 million to $3 million and would have stiffened penalties for environmental infractions.
Amendments the governor withheld until a midnight deadline also blunt legislation mandating coverage by some group insurance plans for children with autism.
But nearly 12 hours after his amendments were due, the governor had yet to make public scores of amendments to the state’s $80 billion biennial budget.
