Injured Connecticut Cheerleader Sues Coach, League

The family of a Wilton, Conn. girl who suffered permanent injuries during cheerleading practice has filed a negligence suit against her coach and a youth football league.

The family’s lawyer alleges in the lawsuit filed in Superior Court that the 12-year-old girl’s coach and Wilton Youth Football permitted her and her teammates to engage in a maneuver beyond their capabilities.

The suit says in March 2009 the girl fell to the ground and broke her right elbow and arm after being thrown into the air by her teammates during a maneuver called the “bucket toss.”

Attorney Mary Ann Connors told The Connecticut Post the breaks resulted in the girl’s arm being “permanently fixed at an angle.”

The lawyer for the coach and Wilton Youth Football Inc. was unavailable for comment.
