Pennsylvania Man Arrested for Fabricating $1.4M Insurance Claim
Pennsylvania authorities have arrested a man who allegedly fabricated a $1.4 million insurance claim for storm damage to eight modular homes he owned in Pottstown.
Attorney General Tom Corbett said that Kevin Paul Kollar faces criminal charges for allegedly lying about a 2008 insurance claim for water and wind damage to the vacant homes, which were being stored at an open lot. Kollar allegedly claimed the houses suffered extensive damage during a storm, and had been in “as new” condition, wrapped in protective materials and personally inspected by him on a regular basis during the weeks leading up to the purported storm damage.
Corbett said that Kollar’s claims about the good condition of the homes prior to the storm were directly contradicted by observations and photographs taken by an employee of the business that sold the homes to Kollar. The photos, taken a year earlier, showed torn roofs, damage to ceilings and dry wall, collapsed interiors and ruined appliances along with damaged cabinets and carpet.
According to the criminal complaint, the damage was reported to Kollar shortly after it was discovered in April 2007, at which point Kollar allegedly ordered that the homes be wrapped in protective material without making any repairs.
Kollar faces up to five years in prison if convicted.
