Connecticut Hospital Sued over Woman’s Suicide

September 17, 2009

The family of a Connecticut woman who killed herself three days after her grandson drowned in a bathtub while under her care is suing Hartford Hospital and a psychiatrist.

The lawsuit claims the hospital and Dr. Carl Washburn made a mistake by not keeping Marcia Maglisco overnight on the day her 2-year-old grandson drowned in West Hartford in October 2007.

Police took Maglisco to the hospital after she told a police dispatcher during a 911 call that her grandson slipped in the tub, and that she was psychotic and wanted police to shoot her.

The hospital said it has a policy of not commenting on pending legal matters. A message was left for Washburn.

The lawsuit, filed in superior court in June, was reported Tuesday by The Hartford Courant. It seeks unspecified damages.
