Wrynn to Head New York State Insurance Department
New York Gov. David A. Paterson has tapped James J. Wrynn to be the next superintendent of the New York State Insurance Department.
Wrynn currently serves as executive director of the New York State Insurance Fund and is a founding partner of the law firm MacKay, Wrynn & Brady, where he has litigated cases focused on insurance issues and claims. Prior to that, Wrynn as a trial attorney with McCormick, Dunne & Foley.
Wrynn assumes the office on August 20 as Superintendent-designate, pending a permanent appointment by the New York State Senate.
“As an experienced insurance lawyer with expansive involvement in government, I am confident that he will serve both the Department and State well,” Paterson said in a statement announcing Wrynn’s appointment.
Acting Superintendent Kermitt Brooks will continue with the department as first deputy superintendent.
