Connecticut Regulators Recovered $1.3M in Second Quarter

August 4, 2009

The Connecticut Insurance Department says it recovered approximately $1.3 million from insurers for consumers in the second quarter of the year.

That amount is double the recovery made in the same quarter.

Forty-four percent of complaints in the past quarter stemmed from accident and health lines, while auto complaints accounted for 17 percent; homeowners: 8 percent; general liability 2 percent and fire accounted for 1 percent of claims.

There were 242 complaints made during the quarter which were eligible for recovery.

About $242,000 was recovered from auto complaints, and $193,000 for fire product complaints.

Forty-two percent of the complaints were attributed to unfair claims practices.
