New York Drivers Can Save on Insurance By Taking Online Courses
New Yorkers who want to take advantage of accident prevention courses to increase their chances of avoiding accidents while reducing the cost of their automobile or motorcycle insurance now can do so over the Internet.
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) recently approved a number of online course providers. Successfully completing an online or classroom course can mean a 10 percent discount on automobile and motorcycle liability and collision insurance premiums.
“Accident prevention courses help lead to safer roads and lower insurance costs for everyone,” said Acting New York State Insurance Superintendent Kermitt J. Brooks.
Brooks said DMV-approved courses must meet strict standards for the safe driving information presented and program effectiveness, whether provided online or in person.
Additional courses are expected to be approved in the future.
Accident prevention courses may be taken once every 36 months to maintain insurance reduction benefits.
