New York Police Departments Launch Statewide Seat Belt Checks
Law enforcement agencies across New York state are launching a seat belt eforcement campaign timed to the start of the Thanksgiving-Christmas holiday season.
State police, sheriff’s departments and local police agencies started the two-week, zero-tolerance enforcement effort Monday. The campaign will continue through Nov. 30.
Officials say troopers, deputies and officers will be conducting safety restraint checkpoints throughout the 14-day period.
During last year’s “Buckle Up New York” campaign, police issued more than 45,000 tickets for seat belt violations, including nearly 3,000 written by Troop T, the state police section that patrols the 570-mile-long Thruway system.
